Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1952, James was educated in Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, and in the History of Science at Harvard University. Working as an independent scholar, he has published nine papers over the past 15 years on the physical modeling of value, purpose, and meaning in biology. He is presently a Ph.D. candidate in the History and Philosophy of Science Program at the University of Notre Dame.
