A new report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) highlights the world’s 25 most endangered primates. The report, entitled “Primates in Peril: The World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates, 2012–2014,” was put together by the Primate Specialist Group of IUCN’s Species Survival Commission and the International Primatological Society as well as the Conservation International and the Bristol Conservation and Science Foundation.

The report, compiled by experts every two years, identifies those species most at risk of becoming extinct from destruction of tropical forests, illegal wildlife trade and commercial bush meat hunting. Nine of the primates on the list hail from Asia, while five come from Africa. Among countries, Madagascar sits at the top of the list with six of the 25 most endangered species.
