Neil Greenberg received his doctorate in zoology from Rutgers University and then moved to Paul D. MacLeanﾒs Laboratory of Brain Evolution and Behavior at the National Institute of Mental Health.ﾠWhile there he was also appointed a Research Associate at Harvard University’s Museum of Comparative Zoology.ﾠIn 1978, Greenberg joined the faculty of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he is presently a Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.ﾠHe is also adjunct Professor of Medicine and of Psychology. Greenbergﾒs activities in research and curriculum development have been funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.ﾠIn 1994 Greenberg was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His core research involves the roles of the basal forebrain and stress physiology in regulating social behavior.ﾠGreenbergﾒs teaching emphasizes ethology and sociobiology, but he also regularly offers the interdisciplinary seminar, “Art and Organism.”ﾠRecent lectures have been presented at the Sixth International Research Conference on Consciousness, International Ethology Conferences, the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology, and the International Brain Research Organization.
